so one of this morning's patient's husbands was putting his coat on to leave a few minutes ago, and we were exchanging the normal receptionist-to-spouse-of-six-hour-treatment-patient farewell pleasantries, when all of a sudden he said, "you have such pretty hair." i'll admit it took me aback a little, mostly because we'd already said goodbye-see-you-later and i had already turned back to my work, when he almost muttered to himself, "you have such pretty hair." okay, so i'm a total beeyotch, but it kind of creeped me out.
it just goes to show the irony of life . . . truthfully i spent less time on my hair this morning than any morning this week, and i finished the bottle of 2-in-1 shampoo so it didn't even get the normal amount of conglomerate shampoo and conditioner. go figure.
[side note: 2-in-1 shampoo really isn't that great, i think my hair does better when it has shampoo and conditioner. never mind the latest "no 'pooing" trend where all you do is rinse your hair with an apple vinegar mixture. i'm enslaved to the reign of Pantene and Herbal Essences - not really - i just think washing my hair is a good thing, even if i'm stripping all the natural oils from my scalp. in many respects i'm in a customer service industry, and i can't afford to have greasy hair for 2 weeks while the adjustment happens. right now this is one thing i refuse to feel ashamed of.]
ANYway, i'm back at the home office today after being there yesterday, and i still have a half day to go tomorrow. after that i'm off to the semi-north for a very short while. i'll be somewhere in Wisconsin with JW's family celebrating the littlest sister's birthday (she's 11 tomorrow) and watching the littlest brother's national show choir competition (he's 15). sooooo, i think i'm officially initiated (at least to some degree) into the family . . .
so i'm really excited about one of the presents we bought for the little JW: DUAL ENDED MARKERS from Crayola. yes, they are markers with 2 tips, one dark color and one light color. what i love about these markers are the NAMES. how can i explain how amazing something becomes when it is named creatively, and well? on the markers, the "shade" (the basic color) is in the middle, and on either side are the "versions" that Crayola named. here are the different colors:

Candied RED Apple
Sweet ORANGE Marmalade
Tangy YELLOW Lemonade
Slimy GREEN Alien
Clear BLUE Sky
Wild PURPLE Violet
Stunning PINK Sunset
Thick BLACK Shadows
aaaaahhh!!! i was standing there in the Target aisle positively GUSHING over these markers, and JW stood there are stared at me like, what the h. has happened to my girlfriend. i won't even share the names of the dual-ended colored pencils . . . go look them up . . . now . . .
so in all my endeavors on the work front lately, my latest paycheck shows 22 hours of overtime in the last pay period. while it has not been the most rejuvenating period of my life, i have made a fair amount of money. i hadn't thought about that when it all started, and i have to admit it's a welcome reward. i haven't bought myself a pair of shoes in months . . . literally. partly because i haven't cared much for what was on the market and partly because i'm terrified of spending money on non-vital items. however, i believe i'm going to splurge for something like this:

booya. now unworn shoes always look cuter unworn than they do once i put them on my feet, but i'm hoping these work out. i don't know how many patterns i'll get. don't mess with an overworked, yet well-paid, deliriously exhausted, yet giddily excited girl who's about to work a half day tomorrow and then go on a mini vacation.
don't.
mess.
peace to you and yours this not-yet-springtime season.
