i wouldn't mind . . .

. . . falling into this ornate bed in this coolly elegant room.

i was up very late last night celebrating the visit of 2 of my very best friends, D & A. it's amazing to me that one of my best friends' husbands has turned out to be such a great buddy to me as well. D got a promotion recently that was official as of yesterday, so we went out and had awesome Mexican food at a tiny joint in town that's open until 4 a.m. on weekends. i love that there's a place in this sleepy little suburb that's open so late --- after 11:30 p.m., it's always hopping. there's nowhere else to go, and the food is delicious. of course we played Rook at the table for a couple hours too. i don't think there was an empty table the whole time we were there. D & A are here for the entire holiday weekend and we have so many traditions to uphold. i'm definitely prepared for more sleepless nights, good food, card games, and reminiscing.

i came home and called J, who is also nocturnal, and we laughed and talked about how amazing a summer playlist can be, how important the last song you hear before pulling in at night is. she sent me a summer mix last week and i've been playing it nonstop. (i highly recommend Keane's "Love is the End.")

i'm swimming in pointless paperwork for just several more hours until the 3-day weekend. and then it's Happy Independence Day to all!

sleep deprived but buoyant today, how about you?
she.

Oh, wonderful. So wonderful. (It's where I first discovered guacamole.) I miss those yellow walls-- they're yellow, right? I remember them being yellow.
