{ finishing project, day five }
i lied back, my head sinking softly into the pillow with its beloved patterned case, the duskiest sea foam hexagons scrolled endlessly from seam to seam. i tipped myself slowly into the in-between, the sound of a child practicing her piano curling itself neatly into my eardrum. the luxury of this rest, the quietness of the house, the resigned efforts of the sun to keep its face in the sky --- it all struck me as beautiful, profound, worth figuring out. and just before i hit the velvet dark, a leopard with rubies for eyes streaked past on my left. it stopped short some distance ahead and wheeled around to face me, whiskers trembling. its eyes flashed, i felt something between kinship and danger, and then there was no more.
