weekend dread

you didn't think there was such a thing, did you?

yes, i have a case of Weekend Dread. my bf is leaving tomorrow for the weekend, which not only means he's gone, but it also means i have to fill in for him and lead the music on Sunday. GAH. i'm not horrible at it, but i hate doing it. mostly it's me psyching myself out, thinking people see me as the "second string / B team" when he's gone. also, he's paid to plan and lead this stuff . . . i'm trying to do it in my "spare time" --- right.

so part of the time we have before he leaves is tonight, at rehearsal for Sunday. boo. i think we're going to try and have breakfast tomorrow, but right now the plan / possibility is sketchy at best. maybe what's bothering me is i'm sure being away from each other bothers me more than it bothers him, and that's just annoying. i know, i know, i can be such a GIRL sometimes.

[side note: text messaging can be awfully fun and awfully dangerous. end side note.]

last night consisted of these things:
Nantucket Nectars Peach Orange (try it, now):

my favorite fast non-fast food:

Sylvia with Gwyneth Paltrow (very dark and very good)

the first three chapters of this book:

i also took a walk around the very scenic suburb i live in, admiring the enormous homes from behind my movie-star sunglasses. then i came home and assembled the tower fan my parents just gave me for Homecoming Day.* i used it last night, and it's going on record as one of my favorite gifts ever. i especially like the "breeze" function, which simulates wind by intermittently blowing and not blowing. put that thing on oscillate and it feels like you're falling asleep in a hammock by the sea. i like this fan because it's 3,226 times quieter than my 8-inch Honeywell bomber fan. with the summer approaching and my non-air conditioned apartment sitting there waiting to become stifling hot, any helpers of cool are considered treasures . . .

today's work project: beautifying my bulletin board with pictures and colored paper. perhaps i'll post a picture of it when it's finished. what i thought would be a simple take-down-existing-papers, plaster-board-with-magazine-pages, and then put-existing-papers-back-up-artistically project has prompted the revision of a few phone lists. revising phone lists is one of the most necessary, most irritating jobs a secretary could wish for. might as well do it today, as long as i'm dreading the weekend . . . right?

sigh

it's so nice to look up at the bulletin board and see a layout from RealSimple of an "alphabet" themed room! the red-rimmed lampshade hanging over the table has an optometrist's eye chart on it, the table runner has words scrawled all over it in blue, and the water in the vase of red tulips has been dyed red . . . right next to a bowl of lemons . . . oh, for the love of color!

* Homecoming Day: the day i arrived in the States after being adopted. my family celebrates by having dinner together, and i get 1 present!

Oh, to be a girl. We're allowed, every so often-- we were born that way, after all. Can't be helped.
