recent conquests

oh FEAR NOT friends, i haven't gone and become some girl-don(juan), but when it comes to shopping, or moreso PURCHASING, i am the suavest girl this side of the Mississippi. (i do have to make that geographical distinction, because Besterling lives in Idaho and she's the smoothest shoperator on the OTHER side of the big river.)

OHMYGOSH. i just made up a new conglomerate nonsense wordphrase. SMOOTH SHOPERATOR. this is my new favorite. lucky for you innocent bystanders, this term only applies to 0.024% of the population, so i won't be using it that often. but boy, do i love it.

now for my conquests...read on!

conquest #1: new iPod nano
i've never had any sort of electronic mp3 player. ever. it's shocking considering what a music junkie i am...but i've always been a late bloomer. i don't think i owned a CD until i got to college (in 2000). like i said: late bloomer.

so this year i settled the debt i owed myself and bought the new nano when it came out a couple months ago. i agonized over the color (which one best represented my soul in its entirety???) and finally settled on what everyone else could have predicted from the beginning: hot pink. i also had it engraved:

she is joy, awake aglow
tout est plein d'amour

(exclusive blog insider info: the first line is one from George Meredith's poem "The Lark Ascending," which inspired one of my favorite orchestra pieces of all time by the same name (composed by Ralph Vaughn Williams). the second line is the title of one of my favorite Bjork songs that i translated into French: all is full of love.)

conquest #2: Taylor Swift's album "Fearless: Platinum Edition"
(okay, instead of hating me for buying this, direct your distaste at whoever told Taylor her hair looked good, or even acceptable, on this album cover art. it looks like an electronicized fire-nado.)

now before you label me a bouncy, country-loving, mainstream-music-blaring teeny bopper, know that my music library is entirely overstocked with mellow, folksy, indie recording artists. having immersed myself in melancholy lyrics about love, loss, and love lost, i was ready for something lighter --- and "Fearless" fits that bill. it's catchy, it's girly, and it's fun. and it's enough of those things to help me overlook Taylor's horrible laser-blown mane.

conquest #3: Springtime Girls postcard set from the black apple
having recently entered Mme.'s Month of Mail challenge, i searched high and low for beautiful postcards fit for beautiful people and arrived at these:
i loved them. i wanted them. i bought them. end of story.

in other news, the black apple RULES. i LOVE this shop. she has 25,978 sales out of her Etsy shop, for heaven's sake! her paintings and illustrations are filled with longing, mystery, beauty, and a shadowy quality that is altogether ethereal, intriguing, and unique. just look at this "Salt Meets Pepper" print! it might be the most adorable thing i've ever seen in my life. it's not on my list of conquests yet, but it may be in the near future...

oh man. i'm exhausted and exhilirated just reviewing this list of conquests. can you handle one more? okay. i also recently procured an object of my long-curated desire: a puffy vest. LISTEN --- i needed it. and i've wanted one for years and have just never found the perfect one. well, last weekend L. and i went on a shopping spree (sometimes it's the only cure for the thing that ails you)(and by "spree" i mean we each bought about 3 items) and I FOUND IT. read about the joyous experience here.

that's all the credit card romance i have to report today...
may it inspire you to woo pretty things into your possession!
she.

This is Bestertista reporting for commenting duty.

All I really want to say is that I love it when you're hyper.

HAHAHA you have me pegged perfectly, don't you? i AM hyper and i have NO idea why. i'm all shot through with swirls of wit and it just keeps on coming. actually, i'm not sure anything i've said would qualify as witty, so i'll leave that to the experts. wheeee!

You are BOTH hyper today.
Run away packages, SMOOTHEST SHOPERATOR!

I wish your conquests were more of the girl-don juan nature.

SCANDAL.

Shoperator... PERFECT! Love that new word.

iPod Nano...I love mine...in green for me. You'll love yours. I'm addicted to it. It saves me on public transportation so many times...planes, trains, and um subways. I like the quiet you can get in an automobile.

As for Taylor Swift...I don't care...I like her, too. I'm of the boppy happy genre type in general. Her music reminds me of a normal teenager instead of the 13-going-on-25 stuff... So, no comments from this peanut gallery. More like agreement. :-)

I have a Gap dark green puffy vest from 2 seasons ago, complete with brown furry-lined hood.

I understand the need and applaud you on your conquests: I understand the need, m'love.

(Also, how did I miss the sheloves blog? J'adore.)
