{ where she went, what she wore }

late-night grocery shopping

fall is my favorite season for a lot of reasons.
that sounded cheesy. mostly because it rhymed.
but it's a true, true statement.
ahem. let's move on.

monday of this week the office felt like nothing but 11 hours of deflecting a perpetual barrage of endless scrambling, cajoling, reassuring, juggling, coordinating little missiles. that's right, it's right-before-school-starts season, and every little wiggler that comes through has at least 3 cavities. holy mother of patience, be with me now.

the last thing i felt like doing was seeing anyone or doing anything, but i have dearly beloved collegiate students/faux siblings/children who are in town before classes start. so i was presented with the conundrum of one of my favorites being available (likely the one time i'll see him until november, he's so busy), but feeling like i was going to collapse and die.

in the end, the perfect twilight evening coaxed me out of my battered-secretary shell and after a quick dinner at home, i ventured out once again to take my boy to the grocery store. having worn a dress and heels all day, i'd also been looking forward to transitioning to pajamas within 3 minutes of arriving home...so i slipped into a few basic, comfortable pieces that would keep me sane without looking like pajamas.

and in between the aisles of cake mix, condiments, and frozen carrots
i found my laughter and my gladness again.
not bad for an eternal, hellish monday.

sometimes you just have to do
what you don't think you can do.
